Procedure for Admission to Citizenship of the Republic of Uzbekistan
The procedure for acquiring citizenship of the Republic of Uzbekistan is regulated by the Law of the Republic of Uzbekistan No. 610 “On Citizenship of the Republic of Uzbekistan”, adopted on March 13, 2020.
1. General Requirements
Citizenship of the Republic of Uzbekistan may be granted to a citizen of a foreign country or a stateless person who meets the following conditions:
a) has formally renounced citizenship in another country;
b) lived continuously in the territory of the Republic of Uzbekistan for at least five years from the date of obtaining the residence permit until the date of submitting the citizenship application;
c) has a legal source of income;
d) adheres to and respects the Constitution of the Republic of Uzbekistan;
e) demonstrates a sufficient proficiency in the state language in order to communicate with others on a daily basis.
2. Submission of Application
An application for admission or restoration of citizenship of the Republic of Uzbekistan shall be submitted personally by the applicant to the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
The following documents must be attached to the application:
- completed questionnaire;
- passport or identification card (or residence permit);
- marriage or divorce certificate (if applicable);
- child’s birth certificate and, if applicable, the child’s residence permit, where the child is included in the application;
- document confirming the existence of a legal source of income.
3. Simplified Procedure
As part of the simplified application process, the following documents must be submitted in addition to those listed above:
a) the applicant’s birth certificate;
b) passport or identification card of a direct relative (in the ascending line) who permanently resides in Uzbekistan and is a citizen of the Republic of Uzbekistan, or a petition from the relevant ministry or agency;
c) a document confirming the presence or absence of a criminal record.
4. Exceptional Procedure
In exceptional cases, a citizenship application must be accompanied only by a passport or identification card (residence permit).
5. Review Period
The total period for reviewing and processing citizenship applications shall not exceed one year from the date the application is registered in the Interdepartmental Database on Citizenship Issues of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
