As part of the global forum "Combating Transnational Drug Threats to Ensure Public Health and Security" held in Samarkand, The Minister of Internal Affairs of Uzbekistan, Lieutenant General Aziz Tashpulatov, met with Mark Tervakoski, Director of the Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs' Office of Europe and Asia Programs (INL/EA), of the United States Department of State.
During the constructive and friendly meeting, the parties highlighted the growing global nature of drug-related threats, which are increasingly impacting not only individual countries but also regional stability in general. As a result, the parties emphasized the need to elevate cooperation to a new level and intensify international experience exchange.
The discussions also focused on the steady development of regional cooperation. They emphasized that effectively countering modern threats requires coordinated efforts beyond national frameworks. In addition, strong emphasis was placed on the advancement of joint initiatives, such as developing modern training programs for law enforcement personnel, enhancing technical capabilities, and implementing new practical measures.
Following the meeting, both sides reaffirmed the significance and timeliness of the issues discussed. Parties noted that the dialogue was one of the most substantive and practical engagements within the forum, with the ideas and initiatives put forward serving as an important basis for developing shared priorities for addressing transnational challenges.
