The illegal misappropriation of drugs worth 48.5 million UZS was uncovered in Gijduvan

An illegal acquisition and embezzlement of narcotic medicines worth 48.5 million UZS has been discovered in Gijduvan district, Bukhara region.
As a result of the investigation, citizen Y.R., a senior paramedic with the district medical association's department of adult anesthesiology and intensive care, abused his official position and, with nurses from the resuscitation unit, unlawfully obtained narcotic medications, including “Morphine hydrochloride 1%,” “Promedol 2%,” “Fentanyl 0.005%,” and “Omnopon.”
As a materially responsible individual, he falsified official records by entering inaccurate data into accounting journals and applications related to narcotic drugs obtained from the association's internal pharmacy.
According to the investigation, 7,894 units of narcotic medicines valued at 48,551,667 UZS were misappropriated through abuse of office. In addition, authorities seized large quantities of morphine, trimeperidine, fentanyl, and other controlled substances obtained illegally.
In June 20, 2025, a criminal case was initiated under Articles 167, 228, and 271 of the Uzbek Criminal Code. An official charge was filed against the suspect, and a preventive measure was taken in the form of detention.
A forensic expert opinion indicated that the accused suffers from drug addiction and is in need of compulsory treatment.
A separate criminal proceeding has been initiated against the nurses of the intensive care unit who are alleged to have been involved in this case. Investigations have been completed, and the case materials have been submitted to the court for consideration.
