Earlier today, the competent authorities of Georgia transferred two individuals who were internationally wanted to representatives of the Interpol National Central Bureau of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan at the Tbilisi International Airport. The suspects are accused of committing large-scale fraud and human trafficking offenses.
The detention of wanted individuals became possible due to the effective use of Interpol mechanisms. This allowed law enforcement agencies to track their cross-border movements and ensure their arrest on Georgia territory.
Consequently, the National Central Bureaus of Tashkent and Tbilisi reached an agreement on the extradition of the suspects to Uzbekistan through comprehensive coordination and well-established bilateral cooperation, including consultations and negotiations conducted during Interpol international forums.
With the support of the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Republic of Uzbekistan and based on the materials from the criminal investigation, the Ministry of Justice of Georgia granted the extradition request. On arrival at the Islam Karimov International Airport, the suspects were handed over to officers of the internal affairs bodies for further criminal prosecution in accordance with the law.
