The MIA Academy hosted a national seminar on combating illicit arms trafficking

A national seminar titled “Combating the Illicit Trafficking of Firearms and Ammunition: National and International Experience, Digital Technologies and Modern Threats” was held at the Academy of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
At the initiative of the Agency for Drug and Firearms Control under the Presidential Administration, the event brought together representatives from leading international organizations, relevant ministries and agencies, along with professionals, scholars, and practitioners.
Rustam Khatamov, the Head of the Academy, opened the seminar by emphasizing the urgency and significance of the topic. He stated that the scale of transnational crimes related to illicit arms trafficking is continually increasing, and emphasized that the seminar serves as a platform to consolidate efforts and develop effective strategies to counter this global issue.
The opening session was also attended by Deputy Director of the Agency for Drug and Firearms Control Jobir Azimov, Deputy Regional Representative of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime Alexander Fedulov, and OSCE Project Coordinator in Uzbekistan Antti Karttunen.
During the seminar, participants discussed the global situation with illicit arms trafficking. They also discussed emerging forms of transnational crime, and effective mechanisms for countering firearms and ammunition illegal circulation. Particular attention was given to improving the legal framework, introducing advanced approaches to law enforcement practice, and studying international experience, as well as identifying existing challenges and practical solutions.
Following the discussion, participants developed a number of recommendations intended to enhance collaboration, implement comprehensive measures, and promote the exchange of best practices between countries and international organizations.
As part of the event, a special exhibition was also organized for participants.
