As part of ongoing efforts to improve public safety and prevent crime at the local level, a working group from the Ministry of Internal Affairs Academy conducted a targeted study of several neighborhoods in Navoi region that are considered to be among the most crime-prone in the region.
During the visit, representatives of the Academy met with members of the “mahalla sevens” headed by the mahalla chairman in the “Beskhent” and “Argun” mahallas of Karmana district, the “Navbahor” mahalla of Khatirchi district, and the “Sharq” mahalla of Tomdi district. At these meetings, the current situation and the effectiveness of ongoing crime-prevention measures were reviewed in detail.
The delegation reviewed the implementation of the President’s decisions aimed at strengthening security in these areas, as well as the measures outlined in the corresponding “road maps.” As part of the initial assessments conducted under these decisions, several crime-prone locations had been identified within the mahallas. Approximately 100 modern surveillance cameras and more than 130 alarm buttons have been installed to improve prevention measures, and many facilities have been placed under increased technical surveillance.
During the discussions, local committee representatives received practical recommendations on addressing the root causes of crime. These recommendations included expanding employment opportunities, reducing poverty, engaging with youth, preventing domestic offenses, and improving residential and public space security. A particular emphasis was placed on advancing technical and physical protection systems.
This targeted study will contribute to the strengthening of law and order at the mahalla level and to the enhancement of cooperation between local communities and the internal affairs authorities.
