Uzbekistan and Korea expand their research cooperation in criminology

On October 16–17, the 12th Korea Institute of Criminology and Justice International Forum (KICJIF) was held in Seoul, Republic of Korea, under the theme “Strengthening International Cooperation in Combating Transnational Organized Crime.”
The forum focused on the importance of deepening international collaboration in combating modern forms of crime, particularly organized crime, in addition to the potential integration of advanced technologies and artificial intelligence into law enforcement and criminological research.
The event brought together leading international and academic institutions, including the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), the United Nations Asia and Far East Institute for the Prevention of Crime and the Treatment of Offenders (UNAFEI), the Thailand Institute of Justice (TIJ), the National Law Institute of Mongolia, the Ministry of Justice of Korea, the Korean National Police Agency (INTERPOL National Central Bureau), Renmin University of China, China University of Political Science and Law, Beijing Normal University, the Korean Association of Criminal Procedure Law, Kyungbuk National University, and the Research Institute of Criminology of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
During the forum, the Head of the Research Institute of Criminology of Uzbekistan delivered a presentation highlighting the country’s ongoing reforms in the areas of early crime prevention, law enforcement modernization, international cooperation, and participation in global rankings and indices.
Following the event, participants from international organizations were briefed on Uzbekistan's initiatives to strengthen its national crime prevention system. It was agreed to implement joint scientific projects and enhance bilateral and multilateral cooperation in criminological research.
Furthermore, the Research Institute of Criminology of Uzbekistan held discussions regarding its potential membership in the network of institutes under the United Nations Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice Programme.
Within the framework of the forum, an agreement was also signed with Professor Jong Wong Seok, President of the Korea Institute of Criminology and Justice (KICJ), to launch a joint research project entitled “Comparative Study of Criminology in Uzbekistan and Korea.”
