To date, 12 solar photovoltaic power plants with a total capacity of 3,030 MW and 5 wind power plants with a total capacity of 1,652 MW have been fully commissioned across the country. Since the beginning of the year, these stations have generated 9.1 billion kWh of electricity. As a result, 2.7 billion cubic meters of natural gas have been saved and 4 million tons of harmful emissions into the atmosphere have been prevented.
Renewable energy sources not only help reduce natural gas consumption but also eliminate the need to use fuel oil as a source of energy. For example, during the summer of 2023, 124,000 tons of fuel oil were burned for electricity generation, whereas in 2024, there was no such need, allowing the country to reduce fuel oil imports by 200,000 tons.
Currently, the use of fuel oil at thermal power plants is prohibited. It may only be used as a reserve fuel in cases of reduced natural gas pressure and exclusively after notification of the Cabinet of Ministers and the Ministry of Ecology.
By the end of the year, the total capacity of solar power plants is expected to increase to 4,630 MW and that of wind power plants to 1,652 MW. As a result, the volume of green energy generated from renewable sources will reach 11.5 billion kWh, saving 3 billion cubic meters of natural gas and preventing 5 million tons of harmful emissions into the atmosphere.
