Environmental Damage Exceeding 8 Million Soums Recorded in Bekabad District

A video titled “Fishing in Sholikor in Broad Daylight” recently circulated on social media. The situation was investigated by the State Environmental Control Inspectorate of the Ministry of Ecology, Environmental Protection and Climate Change, the Sirdarya Basin Control Department, the Bekabad District Department of Ecology under the Tashkent Regional Main Department of Ecology and the Bekabad District Department of Internal Affairs.
The inspection revealed that in the "Yangihayot" mahalla of Bekabad District, citizens M.U. and A.S. were illegally fishing in the "Sholikor" canal using a prohibited method — an electric fishing rod. As a result, they unlawfully caught one silver crucian carp.
These actions violated Articles 3 and 27 of the Law of the Republic of Uzbekistan “On Hunting and Hunting Economy,” Articles 34 and 35 of the Law “On the Protection and Use of Wildlife,” as well as Article 49 of the Law “On Nature Protection.”
According to Resolution No. 80 of the Cabinet of Ministers, the damage caused to wildlife was estimated at 8,240,000 sums. The case materials have been submitted to the General Prosecutor’s Office for legal assessment and appropriate action.
