On that day, eco-activists, representatives of organisations and local communities are invited to devote 23 minutes to physical activity (running, walking, cycling, yoga, swimming, stretching or any other sport) and to share their participation on social media using the hashtag #23for23 — 23 Minutes for Snow Leopards.
This campaign is a tribute to the snow leopard, the ultimate mountain athlete. These elusive felines thrive in the high mountains of Asia, embodying fitness, balance, agility and endurance. By committing just 23 minutes of your own movement, you symbolically join the snow leopard’s journey, transforming personal physical eff ort into a global movement for conservation, shining a spotlight on snow leopards and the vital ecosystems they represent.
Snow leopards are a keystone species of mountain ecosystems and are threatened by habitat degradation, climate change and poaching. Many people are unaware of the snow leopard’s existence and of the exceptional biodiversity and value of the mountain habitats they occupy. A visible, interactive social-media campaign will help to:
–Amplify conservation messaging broadly
–Forge an emotional connection between citizens worldwide and the remote mountain habitats
–Amplify our collective influence by demonstrating widespread public opinion and willingness to support policy or funding
–Unite range countries and partners in a single, powerful, quantifiable action that transcends borders.
Join this global campaign by posting about the initiative on your organisation’s social channels and websites, and become part of a worldwide effort to raise the profile of the snow leopard. The campaign is organised by the Global Snow Leopard and Ecosystem Protection Program (GSLEP), the Snow Leopard Trust and other partner organisations.
