The Uzbek ranger received the honor in the category “Young Ranger for Dedicated Service in Combating Illegal Logging and Poaching.”
The event took place within the framework of the 2025 World Congress of the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) and was organized by the IUCN World Commission on Protected Areas (WCPA) with the support of Conservation Allies, the Universal Ranger Support Alliance and IUCN. The competition brought together 319 rangers from 56 countries, resulting in 6 individual and 7 team winners.
“The 2025 International Ranger Awards shine a spotlight on the courage and dedication of rangers around the world. They are the true guardians of our planet’s most unique ecosystems. Despite all risks, rangers continue to protect endangered species and inspire humanity through their commitment to nature,” — said Dr. Grethel Aguilar, IUCN Director General.
It is noteworthy that recognition of Lazizbek Khasanov marks another acknowledgment of Uzbekistan’s successful environmental reforms. The "International Ranger Award" highlights the bravery, resilience and determination of rangers worldwide while raising public awareness of the vital importance of their mission.
The work of the 2025 International Ranger Award recipients is essential for meeting the goals of the Global Biodiversity Framework, especially Target three – to conserve 30% of land, waters and seas by 2030. Together with local communities, they make a significant contribution to strengthening the harmony between people and nature through education, outreach and sustainable environmental development.
