Information has surfaced on social media about the illegal hunting of pheasants carried out by local residents in the Pastdargom district of the Samarkand region. The incident was investigated by inspectors from the Nurobod District Department of Ecology, Environmental Protection and Climate Change.

The investigation revealed that residents of the "Turkman" mahalla in the Pastdargom district — citizens S.T. and Z.N. — illegally hunted 7 Zarafshan pheasants within the territory of the "Yuksalish" mahalla in the Nurobod district.
For reference: the Zarafshan pheasant is listed in the Red Book of Uzbekistan and classified as a near-threatened species. Although its population has shown signs of stabilization, conservation efforts for this species remain of great importance.
As a result of the violation, damage to wildlife was estimated at 288.4 million sums. The case materials have been submitted to the Samarkand Regional Prosecutor’s Office for legal evaluation and further action.
