For reference: the Saker falcons were discovered by officers of the Anti-Smuggling Department of the Syrdarya Regional Customs Administration in cooperation with servicemen of the Border Troops of the State Security Service. The birds were subsequently handed over to the Regional Department of Ecology.
Veterinary experts and specialists from the Institute of Zoology examined the falcons, and after confirming their satisfactory health condition, the birds were released back into the wild.
It should be noted that the Saker falcon is listed in the Red Book of Uzbekistan and included in Appendix II of the CITES as an endangered subspecies. The protection of these birds, especially migratory species, remains among the key priorities in the field of biodiversity conservation.
At the 20th Meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES), which will be held in Samarkand from 25 November to 4 December, special attention will be given to the conservation of bird species and combating their illegal trade.
