The event was attended by Deputy Prime Minister and Chairman of the Family and Women Committee Zulaykho Makhkamova, representatives from various ministries and agencies, including a responsible specialist from the Ministry of Ecology, Environmental Protection and Climate Change.
The meeting focused on improving the activities of the advisory councils, communicating information about ongoing work and reforms across different sectors to the wider public and the international community. Additionally, information on efforts to ensure equal rights and opportunities for women and men within the Ministry of Ecology was presented, alongside new proposals.
It should be noted that Uzbekistan is implementing large-scale reforms to protect the rights and legitimate interests of women and to promote their active involvement in the socio-political, economic, and cultural life of the country. In this regard, the “Uzbek Model” is being developed and implemented. In particular, the “Uzbekistan – 2030” Strategy, the Strategy for Achieving Gender Equality by 2030 and the National Program to Increase Women's Activity in All Spheres contribute to expanding opportunities for education and employment.
At the same time, in cooperation with government bodies and organizations, extensive work has been carried out to establish advisory councils on ensuring equal rights and opportunities for women and men. As a result, over 4,000 such councils have been created in ministries, agencies, organizations, enterprises and institutions. These councils also operate within the Ministry of Ecology, its systemic organizations and territorial subdivisions.
For reference: a preliminary discussion of the “Country Gender Equality Profile of Uzbekistan” project was held at the UN Women office in our country. Special attention was given to the role of women in the fields of ecology, environmental protection and climate change.
