The State Inspectorate for Environmental Control of the Ministry of Ecology, Environmental Protection and Climate Change, together with the Syrdarya River Water Resources Control Department, and units of the State Security Service (SGB) and the Department of Internal Affairs of Chinaz District, Tashkent Region, carried out a new operational raid.
During the raid in Bostanlyk District of Tashkent Region, it was established that citizens A.U. and Sh.U. had illegally caught 31 fish, representing eight species, in the Syrdarya River using a prohibited fishing device (an electric fishing rod).
The poachers’ equipment and property were seized, including the fish, an electric fishing device, an inflatable rubber boat with oars, a landing net, a pump for inflating the boat, two 60-amp batteries, and a white Cobalt motor vehicle with the registration plate “10 J 011 VA,” into whose trunk the items had been loaded for removal from the site.
The inspection revealed that three of the captured fish were Turkestan barbel, a species listed in the Red Book of Uzbekistan. As a result, provisions of the Law “On the protection and use of flora” were violated and damage to the animal world amounted to 679 million 400 thousand sums.
A report was drawn up; the illegally caught fish and the prohibited fishing gear were confiscated and placed in temporary storage pending legal assessment. The Cobalt vehicle used during the poaching was also impounded.
It should be noted that citizen A.U. had previously been implicated in a similar offence; a criminal case was initiated and is currently under investigation by the Investigative Department attached to the Akkurgan District Department of Internal Affairs, Tashkent Region. Having failed to learn from that case, he repeated the unlawful actions.
The compiled materials have been forwarded to the General Prosecutor’s Office for legal assessment and appropriate measures.
