World Car-Free Day

In recent years, Uzbekistan has seen a rapid increase in the number of vehicles. While 3.14 million cars were registered in 2021, by 2025 this figure had risen by 66 percent to reach 5.2 million. This trend is especially pronounced in Tashkent, where the surge in traffic has a direct impact on air quality and public health. Global statistics show that up to 60 percent of harmful emissions come from motor vehicles, compared to 21 percent from industry and 20 percent from power generation.
World Car-Free Day serves as a reminder that we can reduce the burden on the environment if we refrain from using personal vehicles for at least one day, opting instead for public transport, walking, cycling, or other eco-friendly alternatives. Every such choice is a contribution to cleaner air, healthier communities and a more sustainable future.
