According to the Resolution, a Save Food program will be implemented to reduce food waste and improve waste management practices in the food service sector.
For reference: Under Article 31 of the Law “On Drinking Water Supply and Sewerage”, legal entities and individual entrepreneurs that discharge industrial wastewater exceeding permissible pollution levels are required to carry out primary treatment at local treatment facilities. Moreover, enterprises generating wastewater with pollution levels above the established norms must be equipped with such treatment facilities before being connected to public sewerage networks.
The Resolution stipulates that starting 1 January 2026, the use of organic fertilizers in agriculture and food production will be expanded through the composting of food waste. In addition, fat traps will be installed in the wastewater systems of catering enterprises, enabling the recycling of fats and oils into secondary raw materials.
From 1 July 2026, catering enterprises will be required to clean fat traps of accumulated waste on a monthly basis, in line with their technical specifications and to ensure the processing and disposal of the captured fats and oils. When cooking, enterprises using gas—or, in its absence, firewood or processed coal—must equip their kitchens with devices that capture pollutants and odors.
At the same time, by 1 January 2026, new requirements will be introduced to reduce the negative impact of catering enterprises on air quality. Urban planning codes and regulations will also include specific standards for ventilation and air filtration systems in such establishments.
Furthermore, the period 2026–2030 has been declared the “Priority Period for Food Security” in Uzbekistan. During this period, weddings, family celebrations, funeral ceremonies and other rituals must be conducted strictly in accordance with established rules. Broad public awareness campaigns will promote the importance of preventing food waste and ensuring proper and high-quality nutrition. Food waste will be directed to specialized enterprises for recycling and processing.
