Environmental Strategy Development Was Discussed
The development of sectoral strategies plays an important role in effectively addressing pressing environmental challenges. A meeting dedicated to this issue was held at the Ministry of Ecology, Environmental Protection and Climate Change.
The meeting was attended by a delegation of scientists led by Academician V.L. Kvint of Lomonosov Moscow State University, Minister of Ecology Aziz Abdukhakimov, and officials of the Ministry.
In his opening remarks, A. Abdukhakimov highlighted the reforms being carried out in Uzbekistan’s environmental sector at the initiative of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev.
During the discussions, Academician V.L. Kvint and Russian scholars delivered presentations on the importance of strategic planning, the methodology of strategizing and issues related to long-term planning in the environmental field. It was emphasized that the development of environmental strategies is a top priority in addressing global environmental challenges. Along with nationwide strategies, the significance of individual strategies was also underlined.
Furthermore, the necessity of developing separate strategies in such areas as waste management, climate change, land and water resources, and environmental expertise was stressed, and related initiatives were supported. Such approaches were noted as key to ensuring environmental security, supporting sustainable development and mitigating the negative consequences of climate change.
In conclusion, it was determined that each organization and department should develop its own internal strategy and roadmap for broad practical application. Specific tasks for developing strategic projects at regional and individual levels were also defined.
As part of the event, a short tour of the Ministry was organized for the guests. The delegation, in particular, was introduced to the activities of the Ministry’s Situation Center.
