Specialists from the Department of Ecology, Environmental Protection and Climate Change of the Samarkand Region, in cooperation with staff from the "Amankutan" National Nature Park, have released a Griffon Vulture back into the wild.

Earlier, this bird — weakened and emaciated from hunger — was found near a house in the Taylak District, unable to fly. It was then transported to the rehabilitation center of Zarafshan National Park, where it underwent a thorough veterinary examination.
The Griffon Vulture is a vulnerable, declining, resident and
mosaically-distributed species. It is listed in the Red Book of Uzbekistan, the IUCN Red List and Appendix II of CITES. The species nests in foothills and mid-altitude mountains (700–2500 meters above sea level) and inhabits both mountainous and lowland areas, including cultivated lands. It feeds primarily on the carcasses of hoofed animals.
