The event brought together representatives of key ministries and agencies of the Republic of Uzbekistan, international organizations and development partners to discuss the country’s national climate goals and measures to support their implementation.
The NDC Partnership is a global initiative that supports countries in achieving their national climate commitments and ensures the most effective provision of financial and technical assistance. In 2025, Uzbekistan joined the NDC Partnership with the aim of enhancing coordination and mobilizing support for the implementation of its Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC).
The Coordination Meeting was held within the framework of Uzbekistan’s fulfillment of its international commitments under the Paris Agreement.
“In the face of global climate challenges, close coordination and cooperation between national and international partners, as well as all stakeholders, remain crucial for achieving our shared climate objectives,” emphasized Jusipbek Kazbekov, Deputy Minister of Ecology, Environmental Protection and Climate Change of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
Representatives of the NDC Partnership briefed participants on the Partnership’s activities. They presented coordination mechanisms, including country-driven support for the implementation and enhancement of NDCs; facilitation of knowledge-sharing, lessons learned, and key resources to scale up climate action; and assistance to developing countries in mobilizing climate finance and optimizing the use of diverse funding sources.
Participants discussed Uzbekistan’s priorities and needs in developing and implementing the updated Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC 3.0), as well as the Long-Term Strategy for Achieving Carbon Neutrality. They also noted the existing support provided by development partners to ensure effective planning of next steps in climate policy.
“The commitments outlined in NDC 3.0 also link climate action with the concept of a just transition — a targeted process of decarbonization and adaptation of the economy to climate change, based on the principles of equity, social inclusion, and the creation of decent jobs. Under this approach, workers and vulnerable groups benefit from the ‘green’ economy and are protected from the costs associated with the shift to low-carbon development,” noted Akiko Fujii, UNDP Resident Representative in Uzbekistan.
This event contributed to enhancing coordination between government institutions and development partners, including the identification of concrete next steps aimed at sustaining positive momentum in climate policy.
