Rich Wildlife of the Surkhan State Nature Reserve

The fauna of the Surkhan State Nature Reserve, overseen by the Ministry of Ecology, Environmental Protection and Climate Change, is becoming increasingly diverse with each passing year. This is confirmed by unique footage captured by camera traps installed throughout the reserve.

The video recordings reveal a variety of species, including the Bukhara urial, goitered gazelle, fox, markhor (screw-horned goat), hare, Alectoris, lynx, wild boar and others.
Background: The Surkhan State Nature Reserve was established on September 8, 1986, in the Sherabad District of the Surkhandarya Region. Today, the reserve is home to 194 species of vertebrate animals, including 26 species of mammals, 137 species of birds, 24 species of reptiles, 2 species of amphibians and 5 species of fish.
Notably, 25 species found in the reserve are classified as rare and are listed in the Red Book of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
