A Rare Sighting: Little Owls Nesting in the Wild
2025-07-03 10:00:00 / News

The little owl is known for its powerful talons, hooked beak, and soft wing feathers, which allow it to fly silently and strike prey with lightning speed. Its exceptional night vision can detect even the faintest light, while its muted grey-brown plumage provides effective camouflage in the dark. Nesting typically begins early in the season, usually in March. A female usually lays 4 to 6 eggs, sometimes up to 7 or 9. The bird measures 20 to 24 centimeters in length and weighs between 185 and 270 grams.
For reference: The "Saigachiy" Landscape Reserve was established on 22 July 2016 and spans the Kungrad and Muynak districts of the Republic of Karakalpakstan. The area is home to more than 100 species of plants, including 7 rare ones, and 60 species of wildlife, 20 of which are listed in the Red Book of Uzbekistan.
