Across the country, young people are emerging as a vital force in all spheres of society, including environmental protection and sustainability. Increasingly, young people are taking an active interest in nature, proposing solutions to pressing ecological challenges, and launching meaningful initiatives. One notable step in supporting this movement was the opening in Tashkent of the first university in Central Asia dedicated to environmental studies — the Central Asian University of Environmental and Climate Change Studies (Green University), which operates under the Ministry of Ecology, Environmental Protection and Climate Change of the Republic of Uzbekistan. The university is training a new generation of environmentally conscious and ambitious students who are already contributing to ecological resilience — not just in Uzbekistan but across the region.
Additionally, the Ministry, in collaboration with various partner organizations, regularly organizes youth-focused events and competitions to help young people develop their ideas and realize their full potential. For example, the Eco Camp 2025 youth forum was held at the “Yoshlar Oromgohi” youth camp in the Bostanlyk district of the Tashkent region, where participants tackled environmental issues such as water scarcity, desertification, pollution, waste management and vehicle emissions.
Environmental education is also being actively integrated into school and preschool systems. Today, over 10,000 general education schools have established more than 30,000 eco-biological clubs, engaging nearly 500,000 students. These clubs provide practical learning opportunities in environmental protection, waste management, and the responsible use of water and energy resources.
Educational programs for 79 types of extracurricular clubs under the “Barkamol Avlod” network have also been updated, with specialized ecological programs such as Young Ecologist and Naturalist, Flora and Fauna, Eco Design, and Environmental Engineer developed and enhanced. In 5,200 schools, dedicated Eco Corners have been established and equipped with educational resources.
On this occasion, we extend our sincere congratulations to all the youth of Uzbekistan. We believe that the number of young people committed to protecting the environment will continue to grow—and that they will become skilled and responsible professionals leading the way toward a sustainable future in our region and worldwide.
