CITES Secretary-General Visits Samarkand as Uzbekistan preparing to host CITES COP-20

As part of her mission Ms. Higuero visited the modern Silk Road Samarkand complex, which will serve as the main venue for CITES COP-20. She reviewed the ongoing preparations with a particular focus on:
- Logistics and delegate services
- Venue zoning for plenaries and side events
- Technical infrastructure
- Security, visa facilitation and accommodation
Productive meetings were held with key national stakeholders including Ministry of Internal Affairs, Customs Committee, Tourism Committee, National Guard and event organizers - to ensure a smooth and world-class experience for all CITES COP-20 participants.
For the first time in its history, CITES COP will be held in Central Asia, marking a major milestone for the region in shaping global wildlife and biodiversity conservation policy.
Samarkand is ready to make history - and welcome participants across the world.
