What are the requirements for "green tourism" facilities?

The competition, held by the Presidential Decree “On the state program for the implementation of the strategy "Uzbekistan — 2030" in the "Year of environmental protection and green economy,” Its goal is to encourage the use of environmentally safe products at tourist facilities—including hotels and guesthouses—and the provision of services that meet ecological standards in the tourism sector.
Entrepreneurs play a crucial role in this initiative. Those who demonstrate success in replacing single-use plastic items with eco-friendly (biodegradable) alternatives, adopting scientific and technological innovations, and actively reducing waste will be eligible to participate.
According to the resolution, green tourism facilities must meet the following criteria:
a) Waste Management:
–Separate waste collection (followed by recycling or composting)
–Reduction of food waste
b) Energy Efficiency and Conservation:
–Maintaining optimal indoor temperatures (no lower than 21.5°C for cooling and no higher than 24°C for heating)
–Automated lighting control systems (at least 40% of lighting must be automated, and 40% should use LED bulbs)
– Computerized systems for electricity and ventilation control
–Use of renewable energy sources (at least 30% of electricity consumption must come from renewables)
c) Water Use and Conservation:
–Installation of water-saving devices
–Offering guests the option to change towels and bed linens less frequently and reduce housekeeping frequency
d) Green Procurement and Sustainable Consumption:
–Ban on single-use hygiene and kitchen items
–Purchase of goods that meet eco-criteria
–Preference for products in recyclable packaging
The competition will be held in two stages: a regional selection in September and a national final in October - November. The winners will receive cash prizes as follows: 1st place: 150 times the base calculation value (BCV); 2nd place: 100 times the BCV; 3rd place: 50 times the BCV
The “Most Exemplary Green Tourism Facility” competition aims to prevent waste pollution, reduce plastic use at tourist sites, promote the use of biodegradable materials, ensure compliance with environmental standards, and foster the adoption of innovative eco-solutions and forward-thinking initiatives in the tourism industry.
