In today’s context, effective communication plays a key role in promoting the environmental agenda and expanding public engagement in environmental protection. The success of this event and the advancement of the environmental agenda would not have been possible without the active participation of communication specialists, media professionals, bloggers and environmental activists. Shaping an environmentally conscious public mindset requires a comprehensive approach that includes your collaboration. This side event provided a platform for exchanging experiences and perspectives on environmental education, increasing awareness and fostering a culture of responsible interaction with nature.
The event brought together press secretaries from the regional departments of the Ministry of Ecology, which not only helped enhance their professional competencies in the field of environmental PR and media communications but also facilitated horizontal connections between regions. In this way, a unified communication platform is being created, capable of effectively conveying environmental policy at the local level.
The aim of the event was to establish a platform for the exchange of ideas and experiences among communication specialists, media professionals, bloggers, and environmental activists to identify effective approaches to environmental education, foster public awareness, and promote environmentally responsible behavior. At the center of the discussion was how to build a dialogue with the public so that environmental messages are heard, understood, and accepted as a personal responsibility.
During the interactive panel discussion, communication consultant Rezida Erdman presented on “How to Talk About Climate Change,” addressing barriers in public perception of climate topics and the importance of storytelling. Blogger and moderator Akida Khanum shared her personal experience in the talk “Social Media as a Tool for Environmental Education,” focusing on approaches to engaging audiences through TikTok and Instagram. Charles Norman from the United Kingdom, an international expert at the National Center for Climate Change under the Ministry of Ecology, delivered a presentation titled “Media and Climate Diplomacy,” exploring international campaigns and the cultural context of environmental communication. Feruzbek Sayfullaev, a representative of the youth platform Ecolog.uz, shared successful case studies of youth engagement in Uzbekistan.
The event enabled participants to discuss effective practices in environmental education, highlighted the role of media and digital tools in shaping environmental culture, and served as an important step toward enhancing collaboration among government bodies, the media community and youth-led initiatives.
