World Environment Day: our shared duty and responsibility

The 2025 campaign is dedicated to the fight against plastic pollution — a global issue impacting human health, ecosystems, and the climate. It urges a reduction in single-use plastics, a shift to sustainable materials, and collective efforts across all sectors of society.
In Uzbekistan, 2025 has been declared the “Year of Environmental Protection and Green Economy.” This initiative has given strong momentum to expanding the environmental agenda and drawing attention to ecological challenges. The country is implementing large-scale measures: the waste management system is being actively developed, and projects on environmental education and sustainable natural resource use are being promoted. As part of the Yashil Makon (Green Space) initiative, hundreds of millions of trees are being planted across the country, including greening the dried-up Aral Sea bed — a key step in combating desertification and restoring natural balance.
At the same time, international environmental cooperation is being strengthened. Uzbekistan is working closely with the IUCN, GEF, UNEP, UNDP, the Green Climate Fund, and other partners to implement joint projects on sustainable development, renewable energy, and biodiversity conservation.
Protecting the environment is the responsibility of each and every one of us. Only by joining forces can we preserve nature and ensure the well-being of future generations.
