"Daraxtga nafas bering": Nationwide tree protection campaign underway in Uzbekistan

The main goal of the campaign is to identify and eliminate violations that restrict the flow of air and water to tree roots, as well as to remove technical devices — such as wires, billboards, and other equipment — mounted on trees that interfere with their natural growth.
As part of this initiative, state inspectors from the district department of ecology, environmental protection, and climate change conducted a monitoring survey of roadside trees in the “Islam Shoir” mahalla of Narpay district, Samarkand region. During the inspection, it was discovered that two pine trees had been concreted at the base, and various electrical devices had been installed on their trunks. The violations were promptly addressed, and the responsible individuals were issued warnings.
Additional monitoring is ongoing near the local farmers’ market, as well as on the central and inner streets of the district. An inventory of valuable tree species is being carried out in accordance with Resolution No. 464 of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Uzbekistan, aimed at ensuring their preservation and proper protection.
The campaign serves both environmental and educational purposes. It seeks to remind every citizen of the importance of treating green spaces with care, as trees play a critical role in improving air quality and enhancing the resilience of cities to climate challenges.
The Ministry of Ecology urges all residents of the country to support this initiative — to stay alert to the condition of trees in their neighborhoods, report violations, and avoid actions that could harm green spaces.
If you witness cases of tree concreting or other harmful practices, please report them by calling the Ministry’s hotlines: (71) 207-11-07, (71) 207-11-08, 1157, or 1207. You can also send written messages, photos, or videos via the Telegram bot: @ecogovuz_bot.
