Mallards typically inhabit natural wetlands such as lakes, rivers, marshes, and ponds. They are found on every continent except Antarctica, with particularly high populations across the Northern Hemisphere — in Europe, Asia and North America. Most mallards are robust birds, equipped with water-repellent feathers and webbed feet adapted for swimming. Males are known for their bright plumage, while females are generally more muted in color, allowing them to blend in with their surroundings.
Many mallard species undertake long-distance migrations. Their diet consists of aquatic plants, seeds, insects, worms, and crustaceans. They nest near water bodies, often in grass, shrubs, or tree hollows.
For reference: "Aralkum" National Nature Park was established on March 4, 2022, in the Muynak District of the Republic of Karakalpakstan. The park is home to 25 species of wildlife, four of which are listed in the Red Data Book of Uzbekistan.
