What is Ecotourism?

According to the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), ecotourism accounts for about 7% of the global tourism market, and this figure continues to grow. Natural areas such as Zeravshan, Hissar, Surkhan, Ugam-Chotkal, and the Kyzylkum Desert have great potential for the development of ecotourism in Uzbekistan.
Relaxation is good, but…
As the warm season arrives, we are drawn to nature. Unfortunately, we often leave behind trash after our outings, turning beautiful spots into polluted areas. We harm the environment by leaving waste that can take decades to decompose. This is a problem we face again and again, often without giving it the attention it deserves. But such attitudes lead to serious consequences.
Caring for nature is caring for ourselves
The International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) defines ecotourism as: “Responsible travel to natural areas that conserves the environment and improves the well-being of local people.”
The main principles of ecotourism are preserving nature and ecological balance, cooperating with local communities, increasing their income, respecting cultural and natural heritage, and promoting sustainable development.
Dear compatriots! When you go out into nature, don’t see yourself just as a guest — see yourself as a part of the ecosystem. Remember: protecting the environment is everyone’s responsibility! Let us turn ecotourism into a beneficial and harmonious process that brings value not only to us but also to nature.
