The Unique Fauna of the Zarafshan National Park

During the census, 150 Bukhara deer and 735 Zarafshan pheasants were recorded within the park.
Additionally, 36 bird species were identified in the area, including the black-headed bunting, stock dove, tugai nightingale, common sandpiper, Eurasian sparrowhawk, and others.
For reference: The Bukhara deer is an endangered and locally distributed subspecies included in the Red Book of Uzbekistan and Appendix II of the CITES Convention. It is also listed as a migratory transboundary species under the Bonn Convention. In 2002, an interstate program and a conservation plan were approved for the preservation of this species.
The Zarafshan pheasant, a sedentary and vulnerable subspecies, is also listed in the Red Book of Uzbekistan. It inhabits areas along the Zarafshan River and the Kashkadarya Valley, within the Samarkand, Bukhara, Navoi, and Kashkadarya regions.
