National Committee on Ecology and Climate Change of the Republic of Uzbekistan

According to Resolution No. 736 of the Cabinet of Ministers dated 2023, "On Measures to Improve the Order of Keeping Wild Animals", starting from January 1, 2025, individuals will be prohibited from keeping certain species of wild animals in captivity or using them in circus performances.

According to the State Environmental Control Inspectorate of the Ministry of Ecology and the General Prosecutor’s Office, the inspections revealed over 80 mammals and birds of 9 species, including four African lions, being kept in captivity without the required permits. The animals were found in private breeding facilities and other locations. Some of them have already been transferred to the Tashkent Zoo for care in accordance with established standards.

The inspections are ongoing.

For reference: According to the Law of the Republic of Uzbekistan No. 627 "On Hunting and Hunting economy" dated July 8, 2020, the hunting season is closed from March 1 to August 15 of the current year. During this period, hunting wild animals and birds is strictly prohibited.
