The mute swan is a migratory nesting species and is considered close to vulnerable. It is listed in the Red Book of Uzbekistan and on the IUCN (International Union for Conservation of Nature) Red List. These birds are typically found in the water bodies of the Amu Darya basin (for nesting), the Kyzylkum Desert (for migration and roaming), and the Bukhara region (for nesting, stopovers, and wintering). Key nesting and migration areas include Lake Sudochye, Lake Khadicha and Lake Dengizkul.
The spring migration occurs between February and March. Females lay their eggs in May, and the young begin to fly in August–September. The autumn migration takes place in September–October, and the birds overwinter from November to February, feeding mainly on aquatic vegetation.
For reference: "Central Kyzylkum" National Nature Park was established on February 16, 2022, in the Uchkuduk district of Navoi region. The park is home to over 60 species of animals, 36 of which are listed in the Red Book.
