From an Abandoned Lot to a Green Oasis: Tashkent’s First Public Eco-Park is Taking Shape

What was once a neglected and abandoned area in the Yunusabad district of Tashkent is now being transformed into the city’s first public green park. Covering 7.5 hectares, more than 1,200 trees and 23,000 shrubs have already been planted. A rose garden and a natural lake are being created, along with bird nests to support local wildlife.

The park is being developed in accordance with ecological standards: pathways are paved with stone, benches are made from dried trees, and the plants have been selected to bloom throughout the year. Inspired by European and Japanese models, the project uses only local trees that are well adapted to the region’s climate.
Importantly, entrance to the park is completely free, and cleanliness is strictly enforced — litter can only be disposed of in specially designated containers at the entrance and exit.
