National Committee on Ecology and Climate Change of the Republic of Uzbekistan

The visit was organized with the support of the Ministry of Ecology, environmental protection and climate change of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the National Centre for Climate Change, and the Ministry of Ecology, environmental protection and climate change of the Republic of Karakalpakstan.

During her trip, Inna Modja visited the Ship Cemetery in the Muynak district, which has become a symbol of the region’s environmental disaster. She also met with local women to discuss their contributions to combating desertification and adapting to changing environmental conditions. Additionally, the singer toured the Savitsky Museum in Nukus, renowned for its unique art collection.

It is worth noting that in November 2023, Samarkand hosted the 21st of the Committee for the Review of the Implementation of the Convention (CRIC 21) to the UNCCD. For the first time in Central Asia, around 500 delegates from 196 countries, including representatives of civil society and the scientific community, gathered to discuss progress in achieving global land degradation neutrality goals and measures to address sand and dust storms.

Appointed as a UNCCD Goodwill Ambassador in 2023, Inna Modja actively promotes initiatives to combat desertification and support women’s land rights. In 2024, together with fellow Goodwill Ambassador and musician Ricky Kej, she released the song Her Land in support of the UNCCD campaign aimed at securing land rights for women worldwide.

Her first documentary, focused on climate change and its impact on vulnerable communities, received international acclaim and was honored with prestigious awards at global film festivals.

Inna Modja’s visit to Karakalpakstan highlighted the importance of international cooperation and the need to draw global attention to the region’s environmental challenges, while also emphasizing the crucial role of women in sustainable development and the fight against desertification.
