The Central Asian University of Environmental and Climate Change Studies (Green University) hosted the final seminar dedicated to the National Greening Master Plan and innovative financial solutions for implementing the "Yashil Makon" (Green Space) initiative.

The event was organized by the Ministry of Ecology, environmental protection and climate change of Uzbekistan in cooperation with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE), and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR). It brought together representatives of government agencies, international experts, UN agencies, the scientific community and the private sector.

During the seminar, the National Greening Master Plan was presented, outlining afforestation strategies, nursery development and financial models. Experts shared international best practices in sustainable afforestation and climate financing, including successful pilot projects in the Surkhandarya region, where the establishment of nurseries has not only promoted greening but also created economic opportunities for the local population.

"The "Yashil Makon" Master Plan was developed with the participation of international experts and consists of two parts. During the seminar, we presented its strategic goals and objectives. Our international specialists also provided technical guidelines and methodologies," said Ulmas Sobirov, Head of Department at the Ministry of Ecology. "The Master Plan aims to increase the amount of green space per capita to 30 square meters," he added.

For reference: Over the past year, UN partners, international and national experts, and stakeholders have developed a comprehensive Master Plan. It combines afforestation strategies, innovative financing mechanisms, and community engagement approaches to achieve maximum impact and sustainable development.

"The Master Plan is currently considered the final outcome of the project. In addition, we are exploring digital technologies to monitor its implementation and enhance the efficiency of the 'Yashil Makon' initiative," noted Akiko Fujii, UNDP Resident Representative in Uzbekistan.

The seminar concluded with an open discussion, resulting in the development of a roadmap for expanding afforestation efforts in Uzbekistan. This roadmap will provide new opportunities for partnerships between the government, private sector, and international organizations.
