The second roundtable in a series of events aimed at the conservation and sustainable management of forest ecosystems was held in Bukhara.

For reference: This initiative is being implemented within the framework of the joint project between the Ministry of Ecology, Environmental Protection and Climate Change, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), and the Global Environment Facility (GEF) titled "Conservation and sustainable management of lakes, wetlands, and riparian corridors as pillars of a resilient and land degradation neutral Aral basin landscape supporting sustainable livelihoods" (The Aral Sea Wetlands).

The project aims to enhance ecosystem stability and improve the livelihoods of local populations in the Lower Amu Darya and Aral Sea basins. A key aspect of the initiative is preventing land degradation, integrating land and water resource management in productive landscapes, and protecting natural areas, key biodiversity sites and important bird areas.

The roundtable brought together leaders of public organizations from Bukhara region, representatives of relevant agencies and international organizations, The Aral Sea Wetlands project team, as well as media representatives.

The primary goal of the event was to raise awareness among the public, government officials, and forestry enterprises about the importance of preserving forest, wetland and pasture ecosystems. Participants discussed measures to protect these areas and improve management methods.

Hosting a series of roundtable discussions on this topic will facilitate effective monitoring and assessment of progress within The Aral Sea Wetlands project. Additionally, it will encourage local communities and stakeholders to take an active role in the development of forest management plans, ultimately strengthening ecosystem resilience and improving the quality of life in the region.
