Red-crested Pochards on Sarygamysh Lake

Researchers from the "South Ustyurt" National Nature Park under the Ministry of Ecology, Environmental Protection and Climate Change, during monitoring work at Sarygamysh Lake, captured on camera red-crested Pochards.

The Red-crested Pochard is large diving duck, weighing 1-1.5 kg. The most characteristic habitats of the Red-crested pochard is lowland marshes that is dominated by herbaceous plants. The Red-crested pochard is a numerous breeding species in the water bodies of the lower reaches of the Amu Darya and in previous years, it also nested on the southern coast of the Aral Sea.
For information: "South Ustyurt" National Nature Park is located in the Kungrat district of the Republic of Karakalpakstan. The park covers an area of 1,447,143 hectares. This unique natural area is home to 149 species of animals, 36 of which are listed in the Red Book of Uzbekistan.
