The snow leopard is classified as an endangered species and is listed in the Red Book of Uzbekistan, the Red List of the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), and Appendix I of CITES.
This species has always had a small population, and its conservation—along with that of other migratory animals—remains a high priority. Notably, the logo of the 14th Meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Convention on the Conservation of Migratory Species of Wild Animals (CMS COP14), held in Samarkand, features a snow leopard. At this international event, representatives from 12 countries highlighted the importance of preserving snow leopards and their ecosystems.
For reference: The Hisar Nature Reserve was established in 1983 and is located in the southern part of the Hissar Range in Kashkadarya region, at an altitude of 1,750 to 4,349 meters above sea level. The reserve is divided into four sections: Gilan, Miraki, Tankhazdarya, and Kyzylsuv.
