National Committee on Ecology and Climate Change of the Republic of Uzbekistan

During the meeting, the parties discussed the initiative put forward by the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, during the COP29 Climate Conference on the establishment of a Regional Genetic Resources Bank with the participation of leading multilateral structures to increase the resilience of crops to climate change. The ICBA expressed its willingness to support the initiative and take an active part in its implementation. The Minister stressed that the structure can become an important platform for industrial cooperation, as well as scientific and technological exchange in the Central Asian region.

At the meeting, the parties discussed the progress of the project "Development of sustainable agricultural production systems in the degraded territories of Karakalpakstan", which aims to reduce the vulnerability of farmers in Nukus, Muynak, and Chimbay and improve their adaptive capacity to prevent economic losses associated with land degradation. It was noted that the project is a step towards mitigating the consequences of the Aral Sea disaster and promoting sustainable agriculture in the region.

The Minister congratulated the ICBA organization on its 25th anniversary and noted the increasing pace of cooperation in Uzbekistan. At the same time, ICBA Director General Dr. Tarifa A. Alzaabi presented the Minister with a medal in appreciation for fruitful cooperation and the implementation of joint initiatives. 

At the end of the meeting, an agreement was reached to strengthen cooperation between Uzbekistan and ICBA in 2025, in particular, in the "Year of Environmental Protection and "Green" Economy", to organize joint research projects and hold regular consultations to achieve mutually beneficial results.
