The successful process of reclamation of former uranium mines in Uzbekistan was noted

For information: Uzbekistan is a beneficiary of the ERA, under which the reclamation of former uranium mining facilities in the Tashkent and Namangan regions is carried out.
The meeting focused on the progress made in donor and beneficiary countries. In particular, the Ministry of Ecology provided information on the ongoing work at the "Yangiabad" facility, the completion of reclamation work at the "Charkesar-2" facility, as well as the appointment of an organization (operator) responsible for reclamation, management, and control of all former uranium mining enterprises in the republic.
At the same time, it was noted that the reclamation of the Krasnogorsk uranium mine located in the Parkent district remains an urgent issue. In addition, achievements and goals for the next year were discussed within the framework of the ERA.
For information: in accordance with the Decree of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the Ministry of Ecology, Environmental Protection, and Climate Change of the Republic of Uzbekistan has been identified as the state body responsible for organizing work within the framework of the ERA. A grant agreement has been signed between the Ministry of Ecology and the EBRD on the "Reclamation of the Yangiabad and Charkesar-2" uranium mine facilities. It is expected that reclamation work at the Charkesar-2 facility will be completed, and reclamation work at the Yangiabad facility will be completed in April 2025.
