Turkmen Caracal at the watering hole

A thirst-quenching Turkmen caracal was caught in the frame of a camera trap installed on the territory of the "Aktau-Tamdy" State Reserve under the Ministry of Ecology, Environmental Protection and Climate Change.
For information: 'Aktau-Tamdy' State Reserve with an area of 40,000 hectares was established in 2022 on the territory of Tamdyn district of Navoi region. The reserve is home to 14 species of mammals, 21 species of birds and 6 species of reptiles. Of these, 13 species of animals are listed in the Red Book of Uzbekistan.
Turkmen caracal is listed in the Red Book of Uzbekistan and Appendix I of CITES as an endangered, mosaically widespread subspecies. It can be found on the Ustyurt Plateau, in the lower reaches of the Amu Darya, in the Kyzylkum desert and on the plains adjacent to the Surkhandarya and Zarafshan rivers.
