At the meeting, the Minister expressed gratitude to the Vice President for his visit to the Central Asian University of Environmental Studies and Climate Change (Green University) in Tashkent in April this year, as well as for the continued support provided by ADB to Uzbekistan in the field of adaptation to climate change and mitigation of its consequences.
The foreign side was also provided with information about the reforms carried out by the government of the country in this direction. In particular, the Minister spoke about the creation of the Climate Council under the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan and the development of a National climate Policy and a National Climate Strategy.
During the negotiations, the parties discussed a number of priority issues, including land degradation and desertification with an emphasis on the introduction of the latest climate technologies in agriculture, restoration of the ecosystem of the Aral Sea region with an emphasis on improving the standard of living of the population, job creation, and the creation of the Aral Climate Expo Hub. The ADB Vice President also discussed the Green Cities project, within the framework of which a master plan for environmental protection will be developed for each region and its administrative center.
"This year we approved our final partnership strategy with Uzbekistan. One of the three main pillars is the promotion of green transformation, and under the strong leadership of the Ministry of Ecology, Environmental Protection, and Climate Change, we have successfully provided the first climate–oriented public policy loan in Central Asia", the ADB Vice President commented on the meeting.
Taking into account the ADB's great attention to the Green University, the foreign side was invited to launch a special training program and a refresher course at the university under the auspices of the ADB, as well as consider the possibility of creating its own climate laboratory on its basis.
