International Sun Day
2025-05-03 / Calendar of events

Since 1994, Sun Day, sometimes called World Sun Day or International Sun Day, has been celebrated in various countries on May 3.
The Sun is the closest star to Earth; all others are immeasurably farther away. For example, the closest star to our planet, Proxima Centauri, is 4.22 light years from the Sun.
For Earth, the Sun is a powerful source of cosmic energy. It provides light and heat necessary for flora and fauna, and forms the most important properties of the Earth's atmosphere.
In general, the Sun determines the ecology of the planet. Without it, there would be no air necessary for life - the air would turn into a liquid nitrogen ocean around frozen waters and icy land. For us, earthlings, the most important feature of the Sun is that our planet arose near it, and life appeared on it.
