International Deer Protection Day
2025-08-02 / Calendar of events

There is a legend: one day, Cypress, a beautiful young man courted by Apollo, accidentally wounded and killed his friend, a red deer. Cypress is so deeply saddened by what happened that he eventually asks the Olympian gods to turn him into a tree of sorrow, so that he can mourn his friend forever. While devastated, this red deer is called "Hangul" or Bukhara deer. The branches of the Hangul reach 125 cm in length and have up to 14 branches. It is also called the "Royal Flower" because of its beautiful branches.
There are only about 1,400 deer left in the world. In 1981-82, 24 deer were brought to the Badai-Togai Reserve. Today, 582 deer live in the reserve and neighboring gardens, that is, a third of all deer in the world. Several dozen deer have survived in the Zarafshan Reserve. Hangul is also found in the Tiger Gorge in Tajikistan. That is why it is kept in many zoos around the world.
August 16 is the International Day of Homeless Animals.
This day was included in the international calendar at the suggestion of the International Society for Animal Rights (ISAR). Animal protection is an activity aimed at improving the maintenance and treatment of animals, preventing cruelty to animals.
The public organization "Ezgulik va mehr-muruvvat" opened a shelter for homeless animals in the Tashkent region. Such a good attitude towards our "smaller brothers" can be explained by the increase in the cultural and material level of our citizens, the strengthening of their sense of kindness. Unfortunately, there is no Law on the Protection of Animals from Cruelty in our country yet, and in general there is no administrative responsibility for cruelty to animals. But this is for now, over time such a law will be adopted and responsibility will be established.
September 16 is the International Day for the Preservation of the Ozone Layer.
On this day, interesting events are held in all countries aimed at raising public awareness of the importance of protecting the ozone layer and preserving it for current and future generations. The Republic of Uzbekistan has been a Party to the Montreal Protocol since 1993 and complies with its observance procedure. Currently, 99.9% of substances that destroy the ozone layer have been withdrawn from circulation in our republic.
