According to the national Air Quality Index, the citywide average level of PM2.5 pollution fell within the “yellow” category, while PM10 levels reached the “red” category at certain times.
The deterioration in air quality during the evening and night was influenced by falling temperatures, very light winds, a pronounced temperature inversion and descending air masses from higher atmospheric layers. These conditions restricted the dispersion of emissions and particulate matter (PM) originating both within the city and in neighbouring areas, allowing pollutants to accumulate over Tashkent. In the morning, air quality improved slightly under the influence of easterly and north-easterly winds.
In addition, during the night, specialists from the National Centre for Environmental Monitoring conducted instrumental measurements of ambient air quality at various locations in Tashkent city and the Kibray district of Tashkent Region.
According to forecasts, air quality in Tashkent today is expected to fall within the “Unhealthy” category under the international AQI and the “yellow” category under the national Air Quality Index.
