The Special Commission continues to monitor ambient air quality. On 28 October, air quality in Tashkent was rated as “unhealthy” throughout the day according to the international Air Quality Index (AQI). Under the national air quality index, conditions were classified as “yellow” at night and “orange” during the day.

The situation was influenced by a drop in nighttime temperatures to 9.5°C, a strong temperature inversion, dry daytime weather and the accumulation of air masses formed over the city and neighbouring regions in the areas surrounding the capital. In addition, light winds contributed to the build-up of locally emitted pollutants over the city. Such conditions are common during the autumn and winter months, when precipitation is limited.
According to forecasts, air quality is expected to reach the “unhealthy” category under the international AQI during the evening and night. Some improvement is expected on the morning of 29 October, with air quality reaching the “unhealthy for sensitive groups” category.
