The symposium aims to raise public awareness of environmental issues and the importance of environmental protection through sculpture; enrich Tashkent’s cultural environment and enhance its urban landscape; foster creative collaboration and the exchange of experience with sculptors from other countries; and give the wider public an opportunity to discover outstanding works of sculpture.
The National Committee on Ecology and Climate Change, in cooperation with the Union of Artists of Uzbekistan, has made extensive preparations for the symposium. In July and August this year, an open call for submissions was announced in the following categories: “Ecology and climate change”, “Combating desertification”, “Forests and green spaces”, “Gardens and landscape design”, “Astronomy and hydrometeorology”, as well as an open category. Following the competition, around 200 sculptors from nearly 50 countries submitted more than 370 project proposals to the jury. Of these, the 30 best proposals were selected for this year’s symposium.
The symposium has become a valuable platform for creative exchange and professional development, bringing together renowned sculptors from around the world and students of the Kamoliddin Behzod National Institute of Fine Arts and Design. The students have an opportunity to build on their theoretical knowledge of sculpture and develop practical skills by learning from experienced sculptors.
The symposium will run until 14 November.
