A key priority on the agenda will be Uzbekistan’s updated Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC 3.0). Under this commitment, Uzbekistan aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions per unit of GDP by 50 per cent by 2035, compared with 2010 levels.
As part of COP31, Uzbekistan plans to present its national approaches to achieving this target. Particular emphasis will be placed on the development of renewable energy, improvements in energy efficiency, the introduction of advanced technologies and strengthening the climate resilience of economic sectors.
One of Uzbekistan’s key events at COP31 will focus on climate-induced migration and international cooperation. A high-level event scheduled to take place at the Uzbekistan National Pavilion will address the impact of climate change on migration patterns, the protection of vulnerable populations, and efforts to strengthen the climate resilience of regions. One of the key outcomes of the event will be the adoption of a declaration on climate migration by the countries of Central Asia and the South Caucasus — the Silk Road Declaration.
In addition, Uzbekistan will present its initiatives on the international stage relating to the nationwide Yashil Makon(“Green Space”) project, the establishment of forest plantations on the dried bed of the Aral Sea, combating desertification, biodiversity conservation, and the development of a circular economy. The National Committee on Ecology and Climate Change, together with partner organisations, is preparing the programme for the National Pavilion and a series of international meetings.
Uzbekistan’s participation in the conference is expected to expand opportunities for climate finance, promote the development of joint projects, and strengthen environmental sustainability.
For reference : At COP31, Uzbekistan will present a National Pavilion showcasing the country’s achievements and prospective projects in climate action, environmental protection and sustainable development to the international community. The pavilion will serve not only as a platform for presenting the results achieved, but also as a venue for attracting new international partners and mobilising financial resources.
