Zaamin Mountains are planned to be included in the UNESCO World National Natural Heritage List

As part of ensuring the implementation of paragraph 12 of Decree of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan No. 81 dated August 31, 2023, “On measures to transform the sphere of ecology and environmental protection and the organization of the activities of the authorized state body” The Ministry of Ecology, Environmental Protection, and Climate Change of the Republic of Uzbekistan has prepared a preliminary nomination file for the Zaamin Mountains National Natural Heritage Site and sent it to the National Commission of the Republic of Uzbekistan for UNESCO for sending to the UNESCO World Heritage Centre.
This nomination file was prepared using scientific data obtained during expeditions to the Zaamin State Reserve and the Zaamin National Nature Park by a working group consisting of specialists from the Ministry of Ecology, Environmental Protection, and Climate Change, research experts from the state institution "Institute of Geology and Geophysics named after H. M. Abdullaev", employees of the Ministry of Mining and Geology of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Institutes of Zoology and Botany of the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Uzbekistan, as well as the National University of Uzbekistan.
It should be noted that the Zaamin Mountains are the first national natural heritage site nominated to the UNESCO World Heritage List since the independence of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
At the moment, this prestigious list includes cross-border natural sites - "Western Tien-Shan" (included by Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, and Kyrgyzstan in 2016) and "Turan Deserts of the Temperate Zone" (Ustyurt Plateau / included by Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, and Turkmenistan in 2023).
In addition, the Chatkal State Biosphere Reserve located in our country in 1978 and the Lower-Amudarya State Biosphere Reserve in 2021 were included in the UNESCO World Network of Biosphere Reserves.
Currently, the National Commission of the Republic of Uzbekistan for UNESCO has sent a preliminary nomination file of the Zaamin Mountains National Natural Heritage site to the UNESCO World Heritage Centre. This inclusion will be considered for two year.
